Mysterium Tours · Castle District, Castle Hill

Castle Hill after dark

A two-hour night walk from the foot of Castle Hill to Fisherman's Bastion with a storyteller in Gothic costume, telling tales of Vlad Dracula, Countess Báthory and Hungarian vampire lore. Pick it for an evening on the hill when the day crowds have gone, told as theatre rather than history class.

Buda Castle Vampires & Myths Night Tour

About this experience

Mysterium bills this as the original Buda Castle night tour. You meet at the Zero Kilometre Stone on Clark Ádám tér, at the foot of the hill, and walk up with an actor-guide in period costume. Along the way you hear how Vlad Dracula ended up in a Buda prison, what Elizabeth Báthory was accused of, and the folk cases of vampirism that fed the myths. Guests report call-and-response, theatrics and plenty of humour between the gory parts. The walk ends at Fisherman's Bastion.

Know what it isn't. GetYourGuide's summary mentions the labyrinth, underground and jump scares, but the full listing puts entry to attractions, the labyrinth and jump scares on the not-included side. This is a story walk through the streets. No cellars, no actors leaping out. If you want to go underground, book the Buda Castle Cave tour by day.

The night views are the bonus: the palace and bastion lit up, the Danube below, and far fewer people than in daylight. It's about two hours on foot, uphill at the start. If the climb is a problem, you can arrange to meet the group at the top.

Thanks to our guide Peter, we had such a lovely and terrifing night at Buda Castle. Views was amazing, stories were so fun and entertaining. We really recommend it. Be ready to walk a lot because after 2 hours of walking, you feel a little burn in your legs (still so worth it)

Great tour, our guide was good with call and response. This tour is a great choice to cover stories from old Buda walk through the castle grounds and close the tour in Fisherman's Bastion. It's a great time highly recommend ask them about the wish granting chicken for a lighter story!

Tips before you book

  • Plan your way down. The funicular is closed 5 to 16 October 2026, and otherwise costs HUF 4,500 one way. Bus 16 runs from Dísz tér.
  • Ask the guide about the wish-granting chicken. Guests say it's the light relief.
